High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Keiraville Public School HPGE lives in everyday practice. Many students have high potential, and we help that potential to grow into something powerful.
- Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students. We provide learning pathways, including enrichment and extension programs and acceleration.
- Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
- Groups are flexible, students take lead roles, and feedback is strengths-based with clear goals and self-assessment.
- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.
Every student is individual, so opportunities are flexible and diverse.
- Students deepen strengths through debating and public speaking competitions at network, district and state levels, critical thinking workshops and numeracy workshops like Maths Olympiad.
- Talent is celebrated through the school bands (Concert and Junior Band) and performing arts showcases such as the Concert Band and Creative Arts and Dance Groups and Choir Groups at Southern Stars.
- Leadership grows through SRC at school and at the network level, and wellbeing is made visible through a values-based wellbeing and recognition framework.
- Sport enrichment opportunities.
Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.
- Students participate in opportunities such as APSMO Maths Olympiad, DoE WriteOn, Premier’s Spelling Bee, Premier’s Multicultural Public Speaking, NAIDOC Public Speaking, Debating, variety of representative sporting teams and school sport competitions.
- Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we help with entries, preparation and reflection so every experience feeds back into learning.

What next? The girls have now progressed to the NSW PSSA State Knockout Competition Finals to be played on the 20th October at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre where they will play St Marys PS, from the Sydney Region.
Southern Stars
This year, 25 Stage 2 choir students and 32 Stage 3 dance students took to the stage, in what was a breathtaking experience of 4 performances.
We are so proud of our 32 dance students who represented our school at Southern Stars – The Arena Spectacular: Unlimited. Our talented boys and girls performed in three incredible dances, showcasing their energy, commitment, and love of performing. In the lead-up to the big event, students dedicated themselves to five full-day rehearsals and even gave up their school breaks to keep practicing. Their hard work truly paid off, they were amazing on the dance floor and absolute superstars in the spotlight! Behind the scenes was just as memorable, with lots of laughter, teamwork, and fun shared backstage. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved and one that we will cherish for years to come - Miss Boyd.
The incredible 25 choir singers that performed through 4 shows, were so well behaved and represented our school with pride. From performing at least every second song, changing props, grooving with the choralography and singing to support the featured artists, I cannot express enough how proud I am of each of them. I am especially proud of them for the moving choir items, where students walked down into the audience and sung amongst the crowd. It was a memorable experience and I know they will look back on it for years to come - Miss Houston
A huge thank you goes to the parents who supported our performers throughout this journey, from costume purchases, to make up and those cold and late pick ups and drop offs. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We are so proud of you all!
Regional Spelling Bee Final
On Friday of Week 4, Term 3 - 2025, Meryl in 4D and Baraa in 6R competed in the Regional Final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee via Zoom.
They both made it down to final 5 students in the region, from a field of 30 competitors, which is outstanding achievement.
They should both be so very proud of themselves for their personal resilience and achievements.
Do you think you have what it takes to be a super speller? It’s hard to spell words you may have never heard of before. Some of the words in the final were: aviary, knowledgeable, nomadic, foray, salivate and intrigue! How would you go?
Special thanks to Miss Brewty and Mrs. Haworth for assisting the finalists on the day.
Miss Houston & Mrs. Low
